Medicare Information – Senior Health Insurance Counseling for Kansas (SHICK)

If you have questions about Medicare and Supplemental Insurance, we have trained counselors available by appointment.  A “Welcome to Medicare” meeting is held once a month. This informational meeting is designed for those new to Medicare. For more information see our Medicare Information page.

Caregiver Support

Our Caregivers Support Group meets the 1st and 3rd Monday of each month from 2:15 – 3:45 at the Lawrence Senior Center, 745 Vermont Street.  Private communication is also available by appointment.

Appointments are available at the Senior Center one morning each month.  Call to schedule an appointment.

AARP Tax Aide Program

AARP Tax Aide Volunteers are available to prepare income taxes at the Senior Center on a seasonal basis.  They may be available by appointment during the year. Call 785-856-0365.

Safe Winter Walkways

Need help clearing public walkways during the winter months?  DCSS and the City of Lawrence have partnered to help seniors clear their public sidewalks.  Visit the City of Lawrence Website for more information.

Adopt A Senior for the Holidays

An annual event where members of the community anonymously adopt an older person for the holidays by providing a grocery store gift card and items from the senior’s wish list.  For more details, email Janet Ikenberry, Community Services Program Manager.
